I an thinking of buying the pvr 250. I have a couple of questions:

    - I use tmpgenc to convert my dv tapes to mpeg2. Can I do this faster with this card. Or is it impossible to do.

    - How is de mpeg2 quality compared to tmpgenc?

    - Is the mpeg encoding quality from the 350 better then the 250? Is there a better card to do those things?

If clip is 1 hour then it take you 1 hour to rec, but you must use S-Video/Composite output socket from DVcam in to the PVR 250 S-Video/Composite input socket and need a audio patch cable beware some DVcam don't output stereo they only do mono so you need to stereo to mono plug.
As for quality from the 350 it should be the same as 250 being they both use the same chipset iTVC15.

ok, but is it also possible to use the card to convert my current .avi files to mpeg2. Or do I still have to use tmpgenc?

  4. No, the card won't convert AVIs on your PC. BUT, it might still save you some time, depending on your CPU speed. You can play the AVIs out to tape and then cap them from there, resulting in a 2x real time "encode".

Depending on your cam, you might try playing out to the cam and capping from the cam's line outs at the same time. Hypothetically, this would give you real time encoding, if your cam & PC let you do this.
