  1. Hi there,

well, I was wondering if a movie is captured from the TV or VHS (Huffy 24 RGB capture), is it worth it to be burnt to SVCD or should I just stick to VCD, because the source quality is low ??? Is there gonna be a quality difference between VCD and SVCD ? Tell me what you think.

BTW, the discussion about the poll's results isn't quite answering that so please son't direct me there...

    Thx in advance.

  2. I understand your confusion with the that discussion, so basicly, according to the big guns in the field (not me!) SVCD does not serve the purpose very well when the source is of low quality, so you better stick to VCD or it's variants (XVCD/SxVCD/SeVCD).

VCD will handle low quality better then SVCD, mainly cause SVCD will simply enhance the bad quality and make it look even worse, while VCD might be able to disturt it and make it look good or atleast as good as the source.

  3. I pretty much agree with Sefy when discussing color movies. OTOH, when I process B/W movies, I find the SVCD gives me a better output, sometimes "looking" better than the original (which in my case the originals are pretty crummy sometimes). I think this is because I am able to retain the sharper image of a SVCD while the smoothing filters I use don't make a B/W picture look quite so degraded as in color output. Anyway, that's my experience.

  4. Avoid SVCD. They take much longer to create, are more difficult to make, and the quality difference isn't enough to justify it. They are also less compatible.

If you really want improved quality and want to maximize the space available on the CD, create an XVCD.

  5. LMAO. Here we go again!

iparout, here's the only really true and accurate answer. Create and burn some samples for yourself and then choose accordingly.

  6. It is absolutely not worth it, it would be a total waste of time. Stick with VCD or XVCD
