No, you can't create an .avi with chapters. You can author VCD's with chapters though. :P

  3. No you can't, and for someone with DivxExpert for a name, it should be obvious...

Vidomi Encoder might include chapters in a near future release, they attempt to have chapters in an AVI file so, that a Vidomi Player would recognize the chapter but the file would just play as a normal AVI in all other players. In any case, chapters aren't standard for AVI.

  6. I am aware that avi doesn't normaly support chapters (I am not a moron). But you can add subtitles that are not hardcoded to the video, so could you not add chapter information that works with a certain player? Not that chapters are really all that important anyway.

  7. There are many ways to add subs to divx, and that isn't news, but that has nothing to do with chapters. One would have to know what frames they start to, and ensure they end up encoded as key frames, and have some sort of index built in and either a player that understands this index (or a plugin for some player) to use it. Right now, there's nothing.

As for encoders, gordian knot rules anyways

  8. Actually, Vidomi already supports chapters. Yes, you currently need to use the Vidomi player to play them back, but the spec for the enhanced AVI format has been and is open --

So any player could support chapters in the AVI if they wanted to.
