  1. I want to make a DVD-R from a divx file and use the Pioneer A03 drive to burn it. Will this drive do the job? Is there anything i should be aware of with this drive?

I am using thr A03 for a while an have successfully produced several DVDs with Nero (the newest version finally is working), Instant CD/DVD Version 6.4 and Ulead DVD Moviefactory (Demo available).

Depending on the framerate of the DivX-movie you first have to convert the movie picture size to a DVD-compatible format using resizing in an appropriate programme like VitualDub. 720x480 for NTSC and 720x576 for PAL. Some MPEG2-encoders also require the audio-track to be uncompressed. This can also can be done with VirtualDub.

Then the film has to be encoded with a video-bit-rate < 9.8 Mbit/secand the audio track as 48000 Hz and 192kBps. Generating the video-track as and elementary stream in the m2v-format and the audio-track seperately as a mpa-file (MPEG1-layer2-format) allows to use the freeware programme IfoEdit to author the film as DVD.

avi2mpeg, TMpegEnc or CCE can be done for encoding.

Finally the DVD-file set in a separate dirctory has to be burned with one the above mentioned burning programmes.
