When re-ecoding a dvd or encoding something else to be dvd, whats the max bitrate to use.i know the max is 9.8mbs (video+audio) so let me explain abit more.
Ive had a look at a couple of my origial dvds in power dvd and selected show information. And none of the dvds seem to go much past 7.5mbs,which is what a bitrate of about 7500.So when encodeing to dvd format whats the point in setting the max to 9000 odd when the original dvds dont really seem to go much past the 7500 mark, cause u can downsample but its not like you can upsample.Ive even checked the vobs once on my hdd in bitrate viewer and the peak never went to 9000,it went to about 7600.Im even one of the vobs from spiderman only peaked up to 7694 or something like that.Plus by setting the max to say 7600 then that will leave you room for the audio and menus.
So when encoding a dvd whats the need to set the bitrate to 9000 odd.Y not just say .min 3000 avg. 4500 max. 7000/7500. Or something along those lines.Like use the avg. the java calc gives and use a max of around 7500.
Also if converting a svcd or high quality divx, like star wars episode 4,5 and 6 for example there would be much of a point in setting the max to 9000 odd as its not gonna inprove the quality really.

you haven't tested enough films to draw an accurate conclusion. I have never tested max bit rates, but I'm sure a lot of movies go beyond 7500 in high action scenes. Use bitrateviewer on a movie like the matrix and come back and report your results.

Ok i checked out a couple more movies.Matrix went to about 7600 - 8000,Aliens SE went to about 7800 - 8000.Star wars episode was around 8000 - 8500,sometimes it went to the 9000 mark.
But the thing is if i was to encode a svcd or divx to dvd i would'nt really need to go higher than 7500 right??
as the quality would'nt be inproved.
