  1. Dont know if this is realy the right forum for my question,,
    But here it goes anyway.
Does anyone, know if there is any chip (or other solution) out there to make your standalone dvd player to play divx movies?
I know that some new dvd-players allready have it implemented, but would be great to mod the one i have insted of buying a new one.

    Any tips/sugestions are most welcome

  2. No modifications exist and you wouldn't expect it to either.

The only verified player capable of DivX is the Kiss player.

  4. A addon chip... It's too different, don't even think about it. As for the other players... They will be quite limited on codec support. They won't play DivX3, and even after that they won't like other codecs you'll run into once in a while (wma, ogg, ...) They might not like some specific settings (gmc...) odd resolutions, high bitrates, VBR audio(?)... And when say, Divx6 or whatever else will come out (oh, xvid? lol) well, most likely, it won't play either. Most of the time, for the price these cost, you can build a small computer that will do just great (don't even need a monitor if you don't want to...) I've seen some athlon 1200 go for like 200$ new with all but monitor. So if you even put one together from used parts... It will also let you play somes movies from the HD, across lan... ... And also, you can always use it for other purposes than watching movies (play mp3's, surf web, ...) With the DVD player? Good luck.

Edit: I also forgot to point out that using a PC will also save you quite a few hours worth of reencoding (why do it if you don't have to?) and loosing quality at the same time, and need to recopy/reburn it all... I'd rather just put mine in the tray and watch 'em.

  5. I get your point.
Its to neew, and quite limited in codecs and standards.
    Well, would be cool.
And i do have an HTPC, (based on P3 450) but feel like get rid of it since ive allready have so much s*hit in my tv-room, nice to save space, and not need to have wires everywhere. But i guess for time beeing i just have to continue with my stuff as they are.

    Thanx for the input though.
