This is really starting to get on my nerves, and no one seems to be able to help me. I'm trying to do sumthin that SHOULD be so simple, DVD to DVDR. And I have read not only all these guides, but every other friggin guide I could find on any site. I think I got a grip of what needs to be accomplished by reading them all, but no matter which one I follow to a T, I can't get a DVD that's over 4.5 gigs to encode and re-author it to a DVDR! K, here's what I'm using, and what's goin on...
I would like to follow this guide (if this link isn't allowed, sorry, just want you to know what I'm using):
http://www.digital-forums.com/dvd2dvdr/part2.htm
DVD Decrypter to Rip files to HD
DVD to AVI, (used to use default settings to rip DVDs and use tempg to make vcds and it worked fine. This process with default settings used to make the d2v and audio track in about 20 min. I then changed the settings to remux, and I get an error later when I try to load the audio file into Maestro, "Cannot locate a frame SYNC word at an expected byte offset. Data might be corrupted." Using these settings it only took like 8 minutes. I changed the settings back to default, and it still only takes like 8 minutes now and it's not doing the whole movie?? I am just going to reinstall that.) Anywho, next....
I can encode the d2v file with tempg and it works great, and loads into maestro fine. The only way the audio loads into Maestro is if I use the default settings in dvd to avi and recode instead of remux.
I just can't get the movie file and audio file both to load into Maestro to compile.
Ok, to put this plain and simple I just want to take some .vobs that are 4.5 gigs or more, encode them and put them back into dvd format and burn to dvdr. This sounds simple yes, and about 100 guides claim to show you how to do this, but there is some little detail that doesn't seem to work in EVERY guide. Anyway if ANYBODY can help, PLEASE! Thanks. By the way, I can make dvds if the main movie vobs are under 4.5 gigs, with just taking all the vobs and putting them into a VIDEO TS folder in nero and burn as data. Sorry for the rant, but I really would like to get this figured out, it's been 3 weeks STRAIGHT, EVERY night! If you know of any guides that have EVERY step for this you can email me them... I've probably read them though. Thanks again!

There is no remux setting in DVD2AVI. Do you mean demux? If you select audio track 1 and demux DVD2AVI will create an ac3 audio file in your selected directory. Transcode the d2v into m2v using Tmpeg,is that what your doing? If you have an m2v and ac3 file authorware should accept them assuming your authorware accepts ac3.

Wulf, sorry yeah, that's exactly what I'm trying to do, but Maestro will not accept the audio file AC3 that I try to use. I have to put decode and then Maestro will recognize it. But when I tried that with Star Wars Episode 1, it only had 23 seconds of the audio when dvd2avi finished!?

I use a freebe program called DVD2DVDR to reencode my DVD's and everyone I have tried works no prob, if your doing NTSC make sure you check Forcefilm or ir won't play back correctly, plus yourlooking at about 3 hours just to re-encode with a 2 pass VBR, then another 1 to 1.5 hours for ripping and burning. Nice part about this program its fully automatic one you click the GO icon, as long you use verion 1.3.4.

I suggest you use DVD2DVD-R
If doing NTSC movies:
Select the PGC with the main movie in the input box
Make sure" ForceFilm" is check
Make sure "Start Authoring if possible" is Uncheck.
Make sure "IfoEdit" is select in "Authoring Mode" even if we are going to use DvDMaestro.
If you used CCE 2.5, 1 pass VBR should produce good enough results.
Hit "Go" to decrypt, demux video and audio, then reencode video.
In my case, CCE 2.5 doesnt exit after its done and DVD2DVD-R doesnt do the pulldown.exe command. So you just have to do the "pulldown invideofile outvideofile" in dos or with a windows GUI pulldown program.
After that, you use ChaptorXtractor to make a chapter file from the originall DvD
Then you have all you need to build the DvD in DvDMaestro. You should choose 16:9 letterbox (even if the movie is anamorphic) if you want the movie to display correctly on a standalone DvD player. -
This is what I do when the movie is to Large.
Use ifoedit and create a celltimes.txt file.
Use smartripper and demux to a m2v file and the audio of your choice.
Use rempeg to reduce the size of the m2v file.
Use ifoedit and create a DVD using the new and smaller m2v file, audio file and the celltimes.txt file.
Works great and you can skip foward or back to any chapter you want.
I use PrimoDVD to burn.
Hope this helps.

One last thing.
With smartripper you can demux the vob files to m2v and audio of your choice if they are on your HD. You don't need the DVD to do this.
I have sometimes just used smartripper to backup the DVD to a folder on the HD and then when I have more time I demux.

I couldnt get dvd2avi thing to work either, i have done lots
of dvd burnings also, though i hate the idea of re-encoding,
i tried this one a few times, its a bit frustrating, but i spent 2
days with the other one, using tmpegenc, try this one with rempeg
worked out real nice, 10 hrs or so to do though with a p4 2400 533

oops i forgot, i still use nero to burn it, you may not need to
do this stuff anyway, only a few dvd's is it really necessary,
like ones over 2hrs like star wars or something, ifoedit lets
u strip audio out anyway, hoped this helped.... -

Where might this program be? Can't seem to get to it from the tools page. -
smart ripper, ifoedit, and spruce-up are all there, but you cant use
demo for ac3 sound on spruce-up...
