This is a general question. After being on this forum for a number of years, it appears there is a cycle - one running at the moment - in which individuals prefer to be spoon fed information in lieu of reading the numerous guides posted on this site.
In other times, you see much less of this.

I dont need no stinking guides and my time is too valuable to read the stickies, and rules are for suckers. Just answer my question.
I have a computer and my videos look like crap, what's wrong?"Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard

I agreed with guns1inger, If only this forum had some sort of search function to help me find it.

The forum may need to install some filters that will prevent a question to be posted IF it was already answered before and/or the answer of which can be found in the guides. If filters are not possible, then anyone who found out this is the case about the question, can report it to the moderators for immediate deletion. As a disciplinay action, any person caught replying to that question should be sent to Iraq.
But things to consider if you may:
1. That question might be something of importance to another who is just browsing the home page or perusing the current questions on each category
2. Many people, like me (ahem), find it easier to understand when being taught one on one. Perhaps it was the reason they invented the professors and not only the books. To explain what's in the books.
3. Questions, whether or not already asked/in the guides, keep any forum alive. It is an unfortunate fact.

edong - you appear to have completely grasped the meaning of my poll. It does appear that we're hitting another cycle of spoon fed newbies, though.

Perhaps part of the problem is the knack of searching.
Two people can be set the task of finding something out on the web, using google. one person will ifnd it in about 30 seconds, but due to lack of (insert words like common sense etc here) the second person takes ages to find it.
As long as they ahve had a reasonable attempt at using the search function i dont hitnk its a problem.
the issue is those that find the site snd stright off go - right im posting thread and i want answers. -
One reason we insist on clear and informative titles is that it makes searches a lot easier.
Try to choose a subject that describes your topic.
If you point them to the guides, try to point them to specific ones and they may be more likely to read through them.
And at times some of the simple newbie questions that our members take the time to go though and to explain the processes in detail have a lot of 'views' and input from a variety of members. That tells me there is a lot of interest in the simple subjects. So many posts are 'guides' by themselves.
I just try to be patient with the newbies. They will 'get it' eventually. We were all there once. -
I agree with redwudz. Lets try to be kind to the noobs.
For those of us who have used this site for a long time, it may seem intuitive, but it's confusing for first timers. Also, when you have absolutely no background in video or audio, and no understanding of the technical vocabulary, it takes some time to learn how to properly use the resources available at the site, including the search function.
I can see where some people could loose patience if their topic generates a lot of hits, and they can't narrow their search because they don't yet know the right word to use. -
Yep I read before I ask. I was a visitor for maybe a year before I even signed up back in '04. Then I tried to help when I could as well as asking for guidance. It can be daunting for newbs but searching is pretty easy too. I mean thats how you find a website like this in the first place
