vcd or svcd, what is my problem

please can some one help, I can not get an answer anywhere.
When I burn my avi to a vcd, the picture is ok an my TV and plays perfect on my PC, but on the TV though mu DVD player I get an occasional high pitched squeal and the picture jumps.
What could be the problem? should I be burning as SVCD and not VCD?

How do you convert the AVI to VCD? It could be that you are getting a non-standard VCD. Another problem could be the CD-R media. Some DVD-players are a bit fuzzy about the CD-R's. Try another brand and see if that helps and you could also try to burn the CD's at a lower speed.

try cleaning the cdr , you might have fingerprints on it.
my dvd likes only clean cdr's.. so it might work.
