I usualy use DVDx to rip and convert to VCD but as my DVD is playing up a bit I ripped the whole file ( about 5GB) to my hard drive.
I have tried using DVDx to convert the rip but no matter what settings I put I get a very fuzy picture aroung the edge of moving things, not good.
I have used Flash before but it seems to open only one vod at a time, unless i'm doing something wrong?
I only have an 800 Duron and what to able to convert half the film over night in about 10 hours as I dont like leaving it when at work ( get lots of power cuts) So I need a program that will let me do half one night then the other another. I do like DVDx as it lets you convert a few seconds with sound so I can test it to see if its good enough.
Any ideas?![]()

rip vob to hd --> then frameserve w/ DVD2AVI --> then encode with TMPGEnc.
This is a easy newbie guide

I use
SMARTRIPPER (by file so I can choose audio stream) -> TMPGENC (old version) ->VCD
very simple and straightforward... but kind of slow... maybe its my system... (Duron 800)

I like TMPGEnc but it wont let me convert the last half of the film another day, like I need. If I did it on the highest settings it would take longer than 10 hours to do the whole film

use vcd easy as an all in one dvd to vcd (or if you want to go CVD, use DVD2SVCD). Both apps can be found on the left under tools.
-
VCD Easy is just an authoring tool, not a converter?
I want a program that gives me an Mpeg file so I can use VCD Easy to make a VCD with chapters. -
I use DVDx with the lsx mpeg encoder plugin to convert to SVCD with great results. 2hour film takes 7.5 hous on a 850 athlon.
-
Can I use it for VCD as SVCD is no good for my Player as I get lip sync errors if I fastforward or jump chapter.
-
lsx works better with SVCD but can do VCD also panasonic plugin is a good choice for VCD.
Burnproof -
Is this it?

Not free and AVI to Mpeg? -
unfortunatly not free or at least not ment to be that is the stand alone encoder which you can frameserve to in DVDx .

I do have the Panasonic Plugin but have never got around to trying it. Seemed hard to configure. Has heard was not much better?

I see in TMPGEnc a box with "Source Range" to tick but how does this help me re-start converting for the middle of the film?
I used DVD2AVI to do the frameserve thing and it took about 2.5 hours to do the 2 hour film. I have done a test convert with TMPGEnc with the fastest settings and I am impressed!
I will try it on a higher setting tonight and will have to leave it to convert the whole film if I can't re-start in the middle? -
Double click where it says source range. then select on the slider bar what part your going to encode
-
Thanks for that! I did not know it was even there, and have been using program for years!

I learn new stuff everyday also
When doing video its kinda like being a jack of all trades, but master of none. sooo much to learn. -

I did the film in two parts and it totaled about 8.5 hours with my Duron 800 on the highest settings in TMPGEnc.
The quality was very good but the audio was a bit low?
