  1. I've recently become fascinated with DVD audio/AC3 audio because i'm wanting to make high quality divx movies with surround sound.

I'm curious how you all work this into your compilations.

here is my method for taking DVD and outputting to DivX with AC3 (surround) sound:

    1. Use XMPEG 5.01 to extract the audio track directly from DVD.
    2. Use XMPEG 5.01 to encode the DVD video stream into a DivX 5.0.5 AVI file
    3. Use NanDub to join the AC3 audio from step 1 and the video avi file from step 2.

Please let me know how you accomplish the same feat.

Arguing on the internet is like participating in the special olympics. In the end, you may win, but you're still a complete retard.

    Wrong.

    Don't use NanDub for muxing.

    Use AVIMux GUI.

It comes with the GORDIAN KNOT package which really is the best way to make a DivX/Xvid.

    The reason to use AVIMux?

In the past NanDub has been known to not work correctly causing problems with SPIF sound card output. However you would never know unless you actually used the SPIF output of your sound card. I would assume if it screws THAT up that it probably also screws up playback when playing the DivX/Xvid on one of the few stand alone DVD players that support it.

Anyway there are no such problems with AVIMux.

You really should check out the GORDIAN KNOT package. They have excellent guides for it over on the doom9 website

    1) Rip the DVD in IFO Mode, stream processing with DVDDecryptor.
    2) Open M2V in VDUBmod and encode to DivX
    3) Mux AVI and AC3 wiht AVIMux.

    Very Fast......

2 or 3 Disk AVI's only, it's a pure waste of effort to try it on a single disk movie.

  4. I also recommend using AVIMux_GUI for Muxing AC3 to Divx encoded AVIs.

However, if you know you are only going to play the vids on your computer, like I do. then I would highly suggest using the OGM container instead of the AVI container. That way you can retain chapter positions in the file, for this I use VdubMod and have never had a problem with it. Although I don't use the SPIDIF out on my aud card, I only use the analog outs as I convert the audio to Ogg. Leaves more space for the video. On my 5.1 computer setup it sounds just as good. However, if I were to use those on my good theater setup I would deffinitely keep the AC3 track.
