    I am looking for a good name brand dvdplayer that playes VCD, SVCD, DVD-RW, has a region free hack, and macrovision hack. I am tired of my el-cheapo dvdplayer. I have had bad results with off-brand dvdplayers so i really want a sony or something.

    check out a toshiba 220E or a pioneer Dv 444 or a pioneer 535

    if you are looking at sony - the 405

    dont know if any of the above are all region free and/or macrovision free , but they work well and play all types of media ..

    the one that comes to mind that is region free, macrovision free, progressive, pal / ntsc player is the malita 960
