Hi.
Unlike some people, I just can't seem to give up my Laserdisc collection. This is due to the audio on LDs which is usually outstanding and the fact that there are still some excellent titles available on this format that aren't on DVD yet. Also, I have a huge collection that I've spent a lot of time and money collecting.
My question is, since I have so many dvds and LDs, what Pioneer DVD/LD player would be the best one to purchase(i.e. DVL-919,909,888 etc.)? Meaning, which one supports the most formats? Is the latest model? Performs the best?
I've already checked the DVD Players section but I was hoping for a little direction on which one I really should pursue. As always I appreciate any and all help.
Thanks.

I would suggest that you go with either the DVL-919, or if you don't mind a used player, the DVL-91 Elite player. They will both play DTS audio, and are the only 2 that will, out of all the combination players (without modification). They also both have AC-3 RF outputs, and Component video outputs (DVD only) for the best audio and video available for Laserdisc and DVD. Both of these players also have special video noise reduction systems for laserdiscs, which will help alot, you'll be amazed at the difference if you have a early to mid 90's or older player. They can both make laserdiscs with laser rot look like new perfect discs (depending on the ammount of rot). That's my 2 cents worth...hope it helps!

Thanks for the great input Breal. I was thinking of a 91 as well but I thought it might be an older model and maybe a little more dated. After reading your post I have more confidence in it. The only problem is the DVL-91 is a little harder to find but they are out there.

now, i am wishing i bought a combo player way back when
not sure how much life my panasonic player has left, what
will i do when it doesnt work anymore?ill go to goodwill n
pay 5 dollars for another i guess -
Well I finally took the plunge and bought a brand new Pioneer DVL-919 and I must tell you I am very happy.
It plays a lot of different formats(LD/DVD/VCD/CD) and plays them all well. The Component video and audio outs(thanks BREAL) make a huge difference.
The only knock on this player is the price which is why I bought the 4 year extended warranty. This was a pretty big nut for me and my wife was less than thrilled with my frugality, but anyone who has this player will probably tell you that it's got some outstanding qualities.
I thank everyone for their input and wish you luck with any new purchases :P -
