Is it just me, or do I find it a lot of work and time trying to convert a movie to VCD or SVCD or WHATEVER. Isn't it easier, and much better to view, a DVD that has been recorded from a DVD Writer? I know everyone can't afford them, and they are expensive, but isn't it easier just to burn a movie this way??
PLUS, I hear that when you take out a movie, from BlockBuster Videos for example, that they can NOT be copied. IS THIS TRUE?? I haven't gotten this far with this stuff yet, but was wondering if it is a true statement.
Thanks for your response.

any movie can be ripped..using dvd decrypter or smartripper....
and for other question...people rip dvd movies to vcd and svcd format so it's easier to upload over the net because the size advantage ( each dvd is at least 4G)
Well...do what best for you -
Takes about 5-10 minutes of my actual time to create a SVCD\CVD.
The easiest thing would be for Hugh Hefner and the Bunnies, Clint Eastwood, and whoever to just come to my house and entertain me. However, economic factors prevent me from just eating cake.
SFAIK, most DVD can be copied. VHS Macrovision is also defeatable in most circumstances. -

You must be doing something a hell of a lot easier than what I'm doing! By the time I copy a movie to my computer, rip it, burn it, convert it, and everything else...its take me 5-8 hours!!!!
IF you are buring CD's from DVD"s you have copied on your computer, I still don't see the advantage than just having a DVD Writer.
Just my opinion. -
Automate the tasks with a scripting program and do something else while encoding.
$300.00 to spend on a non-standardized product still in first model runs and also having major compatibility problems is neither a wise nor a feasable investment for me. When they work well, have a compatible format, and cost under $200.00, I may change.
Currently, my $300.00 can be spent far more productively. -
Obviously, you may a lot more patience than the rest of us, and appears you will be sitting for a while before these prices drop that low.
That's fine, personally I would rather spend the money and enjoy the process while it's available. I'm not going to wait until 'hell freezes over' to find what your asking for.
