Hi Everybody,

In the past, I used DivX for converting DVDs and creating Photo Slide Shows. They worked great, great quality with comparatively low file sizes.

This time I tried to convert my edited DV footage to DivX (I used to convert to SVCD format MPEG-2 from DV till this point, just wanted to find out how DivX will look). Somehow, they are looking bad - blockier than the SVCD format MPEG-2 I created from the same file. Not only blocks, I am getting a little jagged lines whereever a straight line appears. The file size is bigger than the SVCD MPEG-2. I am sure that I am doing something wrong, DivX is not that bad. Please tell me what is wrong from your experiences. The settings I used for DivX:

-640 X 480 (also tried with 720 x 480, file size got larger with no noticiable improvement)

- 1-Pass (also tried with 2 pass, took a lot of time with no noticiable improvement)

- 2200 kbps (also tried with lower bitrate of 700 kbps)

- Tried Minimum Quantizer setting of 8 instead of the default 12 with no success

- Tried Psychovisual improvement (light) with no success

I tried MediaStudio Pro and Stroik Video Converter, both yielded same quality. Tried to use VirtualDub, but DV Codec encoded avi could not be opened.
Used CD quality audio everywhere.

Thanks in advance
