I have a problem for some times. All the video I plays on my computer look bad, or not as great as they should look. I have tried these video on a other computer and they all looked much better. I have an overall better computer than the other one (better graphic card, more RAM...).
Could this be a codecs problem I'm using VLC to play the video and I've downloaded some codecs pack.
My graphic card as been update to the latest drivers.
Thanks in advance for the help

p.s sorry for my bad english

  2. What do you mean "look bad"? Colour is off? Playing too slow? Fuzzy?

Did you use VLC to play on both computers?

Did you use the same monitor for both computers?

VLC uses its internal codecs, so it's unlikely a codec problem

By "look bad" I mean the video are very pixellated. Everything else is fine.

Yes, I used VLC on both computer but not the same monitor for both computer.

  4. It's the exact same video file?

Have you enabled some video filters on 1 VLC but not the other?

Yes, it's the same video file.
I don't think I have enabled video filter on a computer but not the other.
I haven't change anything in VLC on either computer.

I have thought of somethig else.
I have tried burning one of these video with ConvertXtoDvd and the dvd was not as pixellated as the video on my computer.

You could try a different player (such as MPC), just to rule out a player issue. Aside from that, it sounds like a monitor issue. Are you trying to play them full screen?

Conversion to DVD would likely make the problem worse (conversion reduces quality), however, most people test DVD's on their TV (which is NOT a useful tool when troubleshooting how things look on your computer).

Also, PC speed isn't that important (at least not when comparing files that play fine on other "slower" PC's). You are only concerned with codecs (which using VLC and MPC rule out), player settings (if it looks the same in both, then it isn't a player setting issue), video drivers (including setup and resolution), and the monitor (if it is a LCD, ensure you are using the native resolution).

  8. Almost all media players in Windows use the graphics card's video overlay feature. That's probably the source of your problems. You can verify if video overlay is the problem by playing a video in two players at once (only one player can use overlay). If they look different you can adjust the overlay settings. Use the graphics card's setup applet to adjust the video settings (not the desktop color settings).
