I just got a JVC 302SL DVD player and want to pop in my VCD's. When I do, they won't play. I am new to all of this and am looking for any and all help. Thanks!

Check that your VCDs are in right format.
Size 352X288 Pal or 352X240 NTSC and bit rate of 1150.
Some DVD players will not tolerate any thing out of the VCD's exact spec.
Also, did you burn your VCD correctly? -
I checked the DVD player compatibility list for your unit and it looks like it handles standard and non standard VCD's.
Could be the media. Try a CD-rw or another brand of cd-r. I have great luck with CR-rw.
Which program did you use to burn the VCD? Might help to post what settings/ method was used to do the burn and which program. Maybe its just a setting problem.
Also under tools on the left you will find examples to use so that you know the problem is not your encoded mpeg-1 file or some other file format issue. -
Try VCDEasy 1.13 (*not Nero*) for authoring/burning and try making the MPEG-1 with TMPGenc's VCD presets. If you do any muxing in TMPGenc always select the VCD stream type.
Check the VCDs in another player if you can.
Do not use CD-RW unless you know your player can handle it (e.g. by checking with a standard audio CD-RW.)--
