  1. Hey, I just got this used Compaq Presario Model 5461. It is from 1999, a decent PC. It's got a CD burner, but I am sooo tired of these 13-15 hour movie conversion times for Divx movies. Does anyone know of any video cards with TV outs powerful enough to play Divx movies and DVD rips. This thing has 8mb of video memory, it can barely play an .avi!

    The Question:
Has anyone ever heard of a video card being compatible with a Compaq Presario?

    Thanx!

  2. Well, the dumbest, most obvious question is, does the motherboard actually have an AGP slot? (it'll be located near the white PCI slots that already might house components like an internal modem, for example.)

If it does, then theoretically "yes". I owned a Compaq Deskpro Celeron PC which had a crappy 2meg ATI AGP card. I ended up replacing it with a (then "topline"), Diamond Viper TNT card. However, it took 2 BIOS flash upgrades from Compaq tech support to get the damm thing even working. It was fine as far as games etc. went afterwards, although I never could never "warm reboot". I really advise you'd check out Compaq's site & their forums & see if anyone's had any hassles. It could save you a lot of pain later.
