  1. Have Micron Celeron 400 computer, 128 ram, 30 gig HD, DMA-100, windows 98SE, edit with Video Wave 4, Digital 8 Sony, firewire card.
Want to speed up the process time for DV video to finished
product DVR-DVRW. Ran out of slots in my mother board-no space to expand! Want to upgrade to new case and use drives
from the old unit, new motherboard-new proc. chip.
What would get me the best for the least? P111 or AMD?
    Thanks

  2. AMD is much better value for money.Athlon 1.2Ghz is the best value CPU on the market(or at least here in Australia).
Best value M/B with a lot of features would be Gigabyte GA-7ZX. (Both M/b and CPU cost here in Australia AUS$450 thats around US$230.

    Shop around!!!

  3. I quite agree with alexb regarding the CPU, however I would more recommand the EPoX 8KTA3 mainboard and not the Gigabyte when it comes to Price+Performance+Features+Stable I dont think anything beats the EPoX, I suggest if you live in the US you check http://www.pricewatch.com for the best price in your area, as for CPU speed, that depends on your needs.

Most (AMD) boards nowadays, based on the VIA chipset, are very stable. Both Gigabyte and Epox are about the same (IMO). If you're looking for "on the fly" speed enhancements, you might look into boards that offer overclocking options as well.

    Works for me.

PS. I agree about the P3. That's a technology that Intel will want to abandon in favour of P4. If you really LOVE Intel, then get the P4 instead.

  5. EPoX just released a new board based on the 8KTA3, which has the ability to Overclock upto 168mhz in 1mhz increaments! all the rest of the features as far as I know are exactly the same, just the same great board got better! it's an Overclockers Wet Dream come True!
