Radeon AIW 7500 Setup Problems

I have an Athlon 1600 256Mb ram, Windows ME. I just got an ATI Radeon 7500 AIW. When I try to go into TV, I get the following two error messages :

The TV application failed to Initialize the Capture Device. If the problem persists you may need to restart your system.

When I press enter, the next message appears :

The TV Player failed to initialize the video.
Check the Windows Device Manager to ensure that the correct video driver has been installed and is working properly before attempting to restart TV.

I did check Device Manager and everything is fine there. I am trying to attach my dish network receiver to this card in order to do video capture. Does anyone have any advice ?

I did download the latest drivers. I did uninstall all previous video drivers before installing. I tried to follow the instructions on the capture page for installing the drivers for ATI and I might have installed too much when I installed the Ati drivers. I might try that again tomorrow, uninstall everything and install in the right order.

Let me know if anyone else has seen these errors. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What software are you using?

How are you connecting the reciever to the card?

Rebooting should resolve the initialization problem.
In Device Manager look in Sounds,video and game controllers and make sure there are no yellow exclamation marks there.

hi.
same exact error message with a sapphire radeon 9000 vivo.
i'm beginning to think making an ati card work is like winning at bingo.
i've tried as well the instructions on purging the system, uninstalling all software, deleting all registry entries and so on, then trying to use different drivers.
from sapphire they told me "you need a new bios", they sent me the bios, flashed it, nothing to do.
same f***ing error message.
i hope you'll solve this problem, if so please let me know how you did.
sure thing: i was thinking about buying an aiw 7500 but now ...

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the advice, I will give you an update. I went ahead and reinstalled everything according to the instructions under Capture entitled How to Capture with ATI All-In-Wonder. I deleted everything and installed Directx, then the other software, etc. I still get the same error message.

Also, on the ATI site, there are only updates for the WDM Capture Driver, the Display Driver, and the ATI Control Panel. You have to run these and then cancel once the file is unzipped, go find where all the extracted files are, and run setup.exe. The way I figured this was I noticed that several of the files were not found during the first install so the second time around I read the readme and found out how to install. Kind of a pain.

Anyway after all this I am still getting the error message.

In response to midweststarts, I managed to get my Dish receiver beside the computer by extending the cable, I brought a portable tv to make sure the signal was coming through. I am trying to connect using rca cables for sound and s-video. I think I have the adapter that ATI provided connected right. There is only one way to put it in right ? I tried sending the signal through coax instead of the rca/s-video, but I still get the error message.

In response to moviegeek, I have a conflict with something called the wavetable but I have had that for awhile. I don't think that could be it could it ? I will check the post you pointed me to and see if any of those help.

BTW, I am using an ASUS A7V333 and I will check for any updated drivers to see if that will help.

I bought a AIW radeon 7500 to replace my AIW 128 pro. Bit of a pain really, I was having a different problem to you. I have digital TV which includes 1 digital channel and 5 analogue channels.

Anyway, I upgraded to the 7500, uninstalled all the previous ATI software and drivers for the AIW 128 pro, but I was having problems with the sound on the digital channel. It was way too loud and was distorting and clipping.

Whatever I tried I could not fix it, I uninstalled and reinstalled software and drivers several times, and removed all traces of ATI from the system registy but to no avail.

In the end there was nothing else to try, I formatted my hard drive and started from scratch. Worked perfectly first time. I don't know what it is about ATI software but once its on your system you don't seem to be able to get rid of it. Not every last trace anyway.

This worked for me, and I felt it was the only thing left to try. If you get desperate give it a try.

Thank you, I might just try that. I have an extra hard drive, I may just try a clean install and see what happens. One of my problems is that the only "full" version of windows I have is 3.1. Everything after that, 95, 98, 98se and ME have been upgrades. I have been told to do a clean install when I upgrade, I guess I am afraid I will lose something. Also, I am not sure exactly how to do a clean fresh install with an upgrade, maybe I need the full version.

I am going to tweak some things in the BIOS and if none of that works, I will try the clean install.
