I have had no problems.
When upgrading to 1.0d, like you, my pc hung (the installation still worked).
This time, I turned off DMA, and it never hung (but whose to know it would have hung if I didn't turn it off?)
Now my Sony recognises CHOICE DVD-R which it didn't before. So far so good. -
the catch when updating is to close out as many programs as possible and you won't have a problem updating.....

I believe that in "Safe Mode" you have minimum programs that are running and DMA should be disabled (I didn't check that).

No problems for me. I am a minimalist so I always eliminate as many applications that run in the background as possible. I feel I can start them when and if I choose to use them.

yesssss!! i've run it in winXP safe mode (1.0f)...now all my cd's work at 2X...the recording of 4.3 gb takes about 30 minutes!! Even with very very cheap media!! Sony rulezzzzz

All I did was turn off my virus protection and close any programs. Ran the upgrade without a hitch. But then I've not had any of the problems others have reported. Using XP Pro.
