  1. Hi been trying the following tutorial "Copying a DVD-9 to 2 DVD±Rs ":

    http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdr-guides.htm

But I really dont want all the extra menus and crap and I'm new to IDOEdit so I'm not doing so well here. Is there a good way to split one large movie that covers 2 layers VOB=7.8GB onto 2 DVD-R's where the movie just starts right up on both.

So far I have used DVD-encrypter ripped the .ifo and 1 large .vob file to my HD. Then used IFOedit to split that into 2 disks, Each containing a TS_VIDEO folder with a .bup, .ifo, .vob files (tried to burn these to DVD-R with Nero didn't work).

How can I now get the stripped splitted disks onto each DVD-R. Is there someway I can extract the .m2v file and .ac3 files from these splitted files? Then I could run them through Maestro and be done. Thanks

I've read the thread on DVDSplit, but it doesn't sound like its too reliable and is difficult to strip out menus and extras...

  3. I'm doing Phantom Menace, first time I've done this 2 layer to 2 DVD-R. My stripped files looking nothing like the tutorial. I see what your saying its under step 3, but I can't make heads or tails of files in IFOEdit. I'm pretty good at Maestro now, is there any way to get .m2v and .ac3 files from the split directories that just contain .ifo and .vob files?

  5. Needed:-

    RecordNowMax 4.*
    IfoEdit 0.95
    DVD Decrypter 3.1.4.0

Open your DVD to back up with DVD Decrypter which will automatically select the main movie and suggest a pathname on the hard drive with the most space.

Select the first half of the chapters and allow DVD Decrypter to do its stuff (remember how many you selected).

On the resultant directory where DVD Decrypter created the new VOBs copy the original VIDEO_TS.IFO and VIDEO_TS.BUP files directly from the DVD you are backing up using Windows Explorer.

Start IfoEdit 0.95 click Open and select the VTS_0?_0.IFO that DVD Decrypter created. IfoEdit will offer to make all your .IFO files uppercase click OK to all.

From the menu at the top of the program select Movie Only and then Strip Streams. The VOB Extras screen will pop up, keep all the defaults and select a destination directory that exists and has the capacity to accommodate the new VOBs that will be created by IfoEdit – click OK and you will be presented with list of streams to keep – Click Check All – Click Strip It - Let IfoEdit do its stuff and when it has finished close the program and the immediately re-open it –Click Open and select the VIDEO_TS.IFO from the location you saved your newly created files (be careful because Ifoedit will try to open the folder it was originally working on) – from the bottom menus select Get VTS sectors and click OK several times when requested. Now click DVD Play to test your newly created files, check that you can fast forward and change chapters, if you can you are now ready to burn your DVDr. Rename your directory with the new VOBs to VIDEO_TS and on the same drive create with Windows Explorer an empty new directory called AUDIO_TS (Both must be uppercase).

Open RecordNowMax cancel the wizard select your DVD Writer from the list on the left, from the toolbar select Data. Using Add files and folders add the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders – click the record button. When finished test your DVD in your standalone.

Now delete all the files you previously created. Delete the directory DVDDecrypter created and repeat the whole process exactly again selecting the second half of the chapters in DVDDecrypter.

    Tips

Testing your newly created files on the hard drive with WinDVD or PowerDVD is pointless as these programs will play text files as DVDs given half the chance. Playing the DVD files in IfoEDit is a pretty good test that they will play correctly on your standalone. Do not expect too much from the navigation in the IfoEdit DVD Player.

Try the first three chapters of any DVD to test your abilities and write the DVD to DVD-RW if your standalone will play them (check VCDHelp for DVD-RW standalone compatability).

    Hope this helps.

I tried your easy splitting method using Decrypter and InfoEdit and burning with RecordNowMax. You didn't tell one little secret. Did you use file or ISO?

I tried file and only used half of the files Infoedit selected and it burned a perfect 1st disk and I thought I was home free. When I tried it again on the last half and try to Infoedit movie only slip streams, I get an error message of--No navigation-pack found in VOB file. Looks like you're dealing with invalid VOB files.

Next I tried using the 1st half of the chapters in ISO and got the same error message. I even tried different combinations of the TS files you said to copy back from the original movie to the new decrypted file.

    Please tell me the secret

thanks for the easy guide so far!!

Neither use the IFO Mode leave all settings as they are and select the second half of the chapters. Dont forget to follow the guide exactly. When DVD Decrypter has done its stuff copy the original VIDEO_TS.IFO and VIDEO_TS.BUP from the DVD to the directory where DVD Decrypter put the ripped VOB files before using Ifoedit.

Sorry for using the wrong name, I tried IFO--the one that splits the movie into numbered chapters. I followed the guide exactly using the 1st half of the chapters and got that VOB error message in Infoedit. I wonder if I have an earlier copy of Decrypter. I'll check when I get home. I tried it all last night using IFO and copied the two TS files you mentioned and even tried adding the 3rd TS file, I think it is a VOB file and always got the error in Infoedit. I was hoping you had the easy answer for me, but this stuff seems to be never easy!

    thanks

    Dear Rjsmyth:

I finally got your VERY easy splitting method to work. I had two problems. My version Decrypter was a month or two old and I had to update it. That may have caused me a problem but the split still wouldn't work for me.

You need to make a tiny edit change on your instructions.

On the resultant directory where DVD Decrypter created the new VOBs copy the original VIDEO_TS.IFO and VIDEO_TS.BUP files directly from the DVD you are backing up using Windows Explorer.

You also need the 3rd TS file, I think it is a VOB file, at least, it wouldn't work for me without it. This method is so easy you ought to post it as a tutorial for newbies.

Thanks for making this so easy
