We need more information. By "can't capture 720 x 480 with VirtualDub", what exactly do you mean...there is no 720 x 480 option, VirtualDub won't start capturing, many dropped frames, what? Can you capture at other resolutions in VirtualDub?

Capture resolutions, generally, have to do with what drivers you have installed. When you updated your system and re0installed the OS you must have changes something with the software.

Post OS, Cap hardware, and cap drivers and we MIGHT be able to help.

  4. What I mean is that I used to cap. @ 720*480 res. But since I just built a new comp. using Rambus. So I have to reinstall my OS and drivers for my ATI AIW 8500 card. And when I started VirtualDub and trying to set my format and resolution to 720*480. VitrualDub gave me an error "Error 481 Unsupported format" But the thing is that I used the same captured card and same codec with VirDub and I GOT a capture at 720*480res. So I don't konw why I can't cap. at the same resolution with my new comp. I used the same driver for my AIT AIW card for my old comp and my new one. Everything is the same. So I don't know why that happen.?????

P.S. I tested my old system by changing the hard drive and restoring new OS and drivers I still can't do it..i still have the same error. But when I plug back the working hard drive it works....why ?? am I missing something ???

Have you tried with different color spaces: RGB, YUV2 etc.?

You might have to install a VfW wrapper to get VDub working (See doom9 capture forum FAQ).

Was it mention somewhere in the past. That ATi don't use Brooktree chips any more but some custom chip. They have also played around with the drivers and bundled software.

I think the clock frequenxy migth be locked at 13.5Mhz now so you might only beable to capture at 704x480 or perhaps your restricted to 640 or even 320.
