Hi.
Although I've been reading this site for months, this is my first post following my first *almost* successful creation of a VCD.
I captured a bit of home video to MPEG1 using my ALL IN WONDER PRO 128 AGP video card. I can play this file as MPEG on my computer and it looks and sounds fine.
I then converted it to VCD while simultaneously burning it to a CD-R using NERO v5. I used all the NERO settings prescribed on this site for VIDEO CD 2.0 standards. I can play this VCD on my computer on several PC based VCD media players and it looks and sounds fine.
When I try to play the same VCD on my newly purchased Toshiba DVD player (SD-2805) it plays extremely choppy video & sound throughout. This same player will play professional VCD's perfectly.
I tried the VCD creation & burn again using ULEAD DVD Movie Factory v5. With ULEAD I did not make any setting selections and simply used the intuitive screens to create the VCD. The resulting VCD had the same problems as the previous one, fine to view on the PC but extrememly choppy on my DVD player.
I also tried to do these steps with a number of different CD-R media, TDK & Hypermedia brands. No difference.
Can anyone offer me any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong or what else to try?
Thank you ahead of time and much thanks to the operators of this website and its great community !!!
Jonathan

Well, just a guess-
Your player only plays standard compliant VCDs, not xVCDs, SVCDs, or xSVCDs (according to the "DVD Players" section on the left).
So it sounds like your player is pretty fussy about VCD specs, and alot of burners are not 100% compliant. Usually, a choppy picture is a result of a bitrate higher (or lower) then the player is designed for.
You could try the TMPGenc VCD standard template to make a good MPEG1 file, and make sure "compliant CD" is checked in Nero.
