could it be done? I'd like to see...I supose it can be done easily with a title menu displaying say 4 movie stills. Each linking to a diferent movie. I think it would be possible , but could you do chapters. I'd experment sooner if me funds let me get a DVR-A03. You could get a series on 1 DVR disk in mpg1 format. So can you write it in VCD 2.0 mode? Or would DVD authoring let you encode in mpg1? Any DVR guys up to try it?
Imagine all 4 Star Wars on 1 DVR.........not so far away !

at the moment, i am not sure if what you are proposing is possible. however it most surly will be.
actually you might be able to do it by using a pre-mastering program then burning the image to dvd.
neyone tried this. -
Your suggestion regarding using DVD authoring software to use mpeg1 files is possible. The resolution, the low bitrate, the format (mpeg1) is no problem - however the software would want to convert your 44100Hz audio feed to 48000Hz.
As for using a VCD format on DVD-R - here is where I see a problem. As I understand our current DVD players come in 2 categories: Those that view the media (i.e. CD-R) and say "Hey this must be a VCD" and play it. And then there are those, that look at the files and don't give a damn about the media and play VOB's (cDVD, miniDVD's) on CD-R(W)'s. This is where I would say that the players belonging to the first category would fail. They would recognize the DVD-R and want to play a normal DVD - not a VCD,SVCD etc.
I do recall a few years back (maybe decades!!!) when SuperSingles (12" singles) first appeared. If you had an automatic turntable and chose 45rpm it would go to the normal single position... but then there is a substancial difference in jolting the needle and altering the firmware!!!

DaeDreamah: Yes, basically what you want to do can be done.
Forget VCD 1/2.0 mode burning. It has to be authored as a DVD video (with VOB files, etc) and burned with a UDF file system having the files in a certain order. The burning part is easily handled by the burning software that comes with the DVR-A03.
The DVD spec allows for mpeg-1 video at constant bitrates (NTSC 352x240 and 352x480 resolutions, PAL 352x288 and 352x576 resolutions). Audio should be 48KHz sample rate, constant bitrate no higher than 224Kbps.
You can author each movie into separate Title Sets with chapter points, and use a high level title menu to select which movie to play.
I've put together a DVD-R disc that has two movies on it using mpeg-2 video at bitrate and resolution simlar to SVCD.
If you use standard VCD video bitrates, you should be able to get at least 7 hours and 15 minutes of movie(s) on a single DVD-R.
Save up your money. And perhaps wait for a DVD+RW capable drive when they come out. The drives and discs will get cheaper as time goes by. -
i hope u plan to buy episode one and own the other 3.
george lucas is not a man i would pirate.
