I've got quite a few films that are 23 fps. How can I convert the fps so that I can convert them in TMPG to make a SVCD that won't appear jerky?.
I've had a search of the forum without finding an idiots guide.

    Thx

You need to use the SuperVideoCD (NTSCFILM) template.

23.97 is most likely ntscfilm source.

it would be shaky if encoded wrong.

Is that all I have to do?
Load my film that is 23 fps, use NTSC Film (23.976) and encode as usual.

Make sure you select SuperVideoCD (NTSCFilm) as this is the right mode for a 23.976fps movie. Next to encode mode, make sure you have 3:2 Pulldown enabled as this is used to make your 23.976fps files play correctly on your DVD player.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

I know this is correct, however my DVD player will not play SVCD, so I encode as NTSCfilm VCD, and they play perfectly.

At the risk of sounding thick and repetative, can we confirm we are all talking about a 23 fps film here.
If I encode it as NTSC film will it play smoothly?
I'm lucky cos' my DVD player will play anything you throw at it.

    Thx

    For clarification, 23.976fps=ntscfilm.

If you are making a VCD you can encode at 23.976fps and do nothing else and your dvd player should play it back properly at 29.97fps.

If you are making a SVCD you can encode at 23.976fps but you MUST use the 3:2 pulldown or else your SVCD will be non-compliant and will be unwatchable on most dvd players. The 3:2 pulldown is a flag that tells your dvd player to play the movie back at 29.97fps, which is required by the ntsc standard. It is not simply for quality, it is a requirement.

If you use the ntscfilm SVCD template and your source is 23.976fps than you should be fine as it will set the 3:2 pulldown option for you. If you want to set this option manually make sure you set the 3:2 pulldown while playback option on the Video tab, not the 3:2 pulldown filter in the advanced tab.

    Thankyou.

    Source......23 FPS
I want to convert to SVCD in TMPG Enc' so I'm going to use the NTSC film template and use 3:2 pulldown as mentioned by adam.

    I'll post back later
