i get this every time i try to convert. downloaded the gui & installed in besweet folder...no help. the files i'm trying to convert have low sound quality (24k). i read where this may cause the problem...can anyone confirm or deny this?

os=windows me (mistake edition, i know)
file trying to convert=downloaded avi files (they play in divx)

update:

tried to "fix" problems in virtual dub. set bitrate to convert to 44100 & set fps to a standard rate (29.97). it crashed after scanning video stream for errors. here's the error log:
