Unfortunately my only computer is a laptop, so I end up having to buy the more expensive external harddrives and burners and the like. I just found out about external enclosures, some of which are less than $40 that claim to work with IDE drives and connect with a firewire or USB2.0.

My question is, does anyone have any experience using an external enclosure with a Sony DRU-500A? Is it possible? Also, is there any difference b/w "EIDE" and "IDE"? The external enclosure claims to work with an IDE interface and the Sony seems to require an EIDE interface.

I purchased one of these for my DRU500A. It works great. Also two of my friends in town also bought the same exclosure.

One GREAT media is the ACCU -R 1x for $.84 in quantity of 100. These work on my Sony.

Also try the Meritline +RW 2.4x for $3.48. Works in the Sony.

  5. Think I might need one of these, can't see anything below $60 though, can you tell me where you found that $40 unit and if you ended up getting it?

Also I wonder if they have any models that connect to the small Sony Firewire port. Might need an external power orf course.
