Need a progressive scan player, region free, and play DVD-R

I would like to get your recommendations for a progressive scan DVD player which can be made region free and, which can play DVD-R and DVD-RW disks made by a Pioneer A04 DVD burner. I use TMPGEnc for mpg encoding and use DVD WorkShop for authoring and burning. Thanks in advance.

I have a 996 and a 104 burner. The 996 does have one quirk. It will not play DVD-R's encoded from a DV source on any DVD-R media. Believe me, I have tried at least 10 different media brands. It is really strange. The same discs play on other DVD-R compatible players.
The 996 WILL play DV sourced burns on Memorex DVD-RW's, and will play DVD-Rs using just about any media if the source is a DVD movie backup.

Yes! thats what I'm doing now but, the only hang up is when someone is watching a movie on the TV, I can't be on my computer. I have the NIVIDA MX 4-200 video card with Twinview. and what show up on my PC monitor is whats on the TV in the Livingroom GRRRR
