    Hi tobenfun,

I have a Logix 3000 which has played both Ricoh DVD+RW and Ricoh DVD+R plus Datasafe DVD+R's perfectly.
This includes MPEG2 encoded from miniDV and DVD rips (without re-encoding).
My burner is a Ricoh MP5125A.
There are several clones of this player (see http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Scan2000/messages) and it also plays (X)SVCD and (X)VCD very well too.
It will even play miniDVD and raw MPEGs with the latest firmware upgrade.
This is a great player and very rarely lets me down.

I can recommend Cyberhome 302/402 and newer Pioneers (444 etc.).
Could be that the Cyberhome are only available in europe so far....

  5. Most Philips, Pioneer and Sony DVD players work without problems. I would avoid Panasonic and Toshiba cause they do nothing to support DVD+RW which is a competitor to their DVD-RAM format even if some of their players do work with DVD+RW.
http://www.dvdplusrw.org/resources/compatibilitylist_dvdvideo.html might not be a 100 % accurate list but will at least give you an indication...

  6. Yep check out the compatibility pages listed above. The only player so far I've found that wouldn't play back either is my portable Aiwa (sorry at work so don't have model). My ancient RCA and a new Apex 1500 play both. A Sampo plays +R but not +RW. Interestingly the Aiwa plays everything else, all sorts of sVCD, CVD, XVCD even some miniDVD if you set them up right just fine. Just won't play +R/RW disks.

  7. Thank you all for your advice.
If anyone else still has any ideas I'd be grateful to hear them; a machine that plays as many of the video formats as possible, but in particulat +R and +RW. (mp3 and audio formats don't interest me at all).
No problem with the Cyberhome being available only in europe. I'm off to Germany next week where, as you may know, all things PC and TV cost only about two thirds of what they do here. I brough my Panasonic RV-32 there for GBP 140! And I've been buying TDK CD-R there for 30p each for about two years! Those of you reading this in the US won't be so impressed with that, but when you live in England, the German "Mediamarkt", "Saturn", "Cosmos" etc put our terrible PC World to shame.

    Yep, thats right...

So, you can get a Cyberhome 402 for €99 from Mediamarkt and others.
This device seems to play any media thats playable for standalone dvd-players: all CD-R, CD-RW, VCD, XVCD, SVCD, XSVCD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and of course CDDA and DVD-Video. I heard that there is an firmware upgrade which enables DVD-Audio too...wow.

I recommend you to check the drive's possiblities with a few media in the shop. 8)

  11. I have a Cyberhome 528 and it will play just about anything I throw at it - even raw MPEG2 programme streams from Freeview! However the picture quality isn't as good as other budget players, although if the drive does die on you, a 40 quid replacement IDE drive will do nicely! I also like the fact that Cyberhome have their own "hack" site at www.cyberhome-help.de The only thing at the 528 doesn't like are VCD's authored by TMPGenc - they jump all over the place - use the Panasonic MPEG1 encoder instead.

or simply demux your mpeg 1 and re-mux them with bbmpeg!

Also another thing for Cyberhomes: Never set the minimum bitrate of any encode bellow 700kb/s!

No, that definately doesn't work! I spent many months on this. It is the actual encode itself the Cyberhome doesn't like. I have a little portable VCD player and it is the same. Will Play Panasonic VCD's perfectly, will jump all over the place with TMPG ones.

Both my panasonic A360 (old player) and NV-VHD1 play DVD+R(W) without problems. For DVD+RW you need to set the compatability bit. For burning I use a HP DVD200i, Ulead DVD Workshop and sometimes Record Now.

Well it works on my cyberhome M 212 for sure!
I know that those standalones are effected a lot by the drives they have. If you excange yourself one, you gain compatibility and less probs.
more and extended infos are at cyberhome-help.de forum!
    Which cyberhome you have?
