My friend has a Pioneer DV340 and it plays some VCDs. Not all. I have noticed that it will usually play the BLUE BOTTOM cds, like Verbatim, and not Imations green bottom cds.
And most of the time I stick in the CDs it comes up with a PCB messege. I dont kno what it means. Can anyone help! Every1 says this player plays everything, but apparently not.
My VCDs, I burn them cause they are BIN files, so the info is in like folder MPEG and then its movie.DAT . Just like If I would use Nero to burn a MPG.
Wierd, some VCDs work, some don't.
THen also I had a DVDr burnt on HQ dark blue bottom, and it wont load, yet I had cheapy DVDr littler blue bottom and it worked fine.

If you press play, the player goes into PBC mode.
PBC = playback control
In this mode, you can use menus and chapters, etc., but you will obviously have to had actually authored the content on the VCD for you to be able to access it.
On many DVD players, press (1) will start playing the VCD in PBC-less mode. That is, if the VCD had menus, etc., none of these will show up. Instead, the player will play each video track of the VCD from beginning to end until the end of the disc.

Thx for the help, but it doesnt help. Still comes up with PBC PLAY on the LCD screen and it does not load anything. I wish there was a hack for it.

I do VCDs 2 different ways. First I just download some, unrar them into a BIN and CUE and burn with DiscJuggler. They work in my Apex1100w and computer fine. Then put them in my Pioneer 340, and it comes up with the PBC Play. It knows its a VCD, the LCD screen displays VCD.
Then I burn just regular MPGs onto a CD using Nero and it works. -
I agree that testing with an audio CD (that newer cd players can play) is a good indication of whether the media is the problem of if the burning is the problem. I had a lot of problems with old cd players not playing dark-dye discs, but light ones were ok.
On the subject of Apex, some of their models are a LOT more compatible than some other brands, since that was part of how they tried to gain market share. Computers should play any disc burned correctly. The dye type being incompatible with your pioneer is a likely cause. -
OK, some wierd results here.
Verbatim:
VCDs burnt from a BIN/CUE doesnt not work.
VCD made with Nero, transferred over from a MPG works
Music CD made from MP3s with Nero works.
IMATIONS:
VCDs burnt from a BIN/CUE on Imations did not work.
Music CD made from MP3s with Nero works though.
FUJIFILM
Music CDs do not work
VCDs burnt from a Bin/Cue "sometimes" works
Memorex did not wanna work at all.
Still that PBC PLAY comes up whenever I put in a VCD burnt from a bin/cue on Verbatim. It recognizes it as a VCD, the LCD screen says VCD yet it will not play. -
The CUE/BIN file may or may not be made correctly. Alternatively, disc juggler may not be burning they properly...
Try use VCDImager Tools GUI ( http://www.michaeltam.com/vcdimager_tools_gui.html ) to regenerate the CUE/BIN and/or use another program to burn your CUE/BIN images (e.g., CDRDAO / VCDEasy or CDRWin).

I am such an idiot! I think I found the problem.
burning with DiscJuggler, i just burn the BIN, not the CUE. SOOO my VCDs have no cue sheets and the PBC cant find it. Burnt with CDRWIN as the cue sheet and BOOYAH! It finds it perfectly and plays on my Pioneer now. ARGH i feel like such an idiot! THX for helping!
