    OK OK...you've got my attention. My times seem ok compared to other times posted here, but faster is always better...for ripping that is.

    2:10 movie takes 10-20 mins depending on moon phases and time from latest defrag.

    Sorry peoples, but:

    Case anyone was wondering what was going on all this time with my not
    responding to my previous post and yours as well, it's because I was
    on my lunch, and went home and quickly logged on my pc and internet.
    That's why I couldn't answer (i wasn't home). And, now being 12 hours
    (1pm) or so. And no, I wasn't playing the teas game, as I've seen
    some on this site. I have ben SO busy this whole day. When I got
    home (late), I was so tired, I took a nap, and ended up falling
    asleep - sorry! Well, it's after 1am here. So let me get back on
    track here.

    Note: this post WAS NOT intented for those who already have high
    speed ripping working for them, ...just those that don't!! Or,
    for those who are still stuck in the 1.x range, like myself. I've
    read here searching time after time, but no answer, though I did
    try everything. Don't you just get sick of "don't forget to check
    DMA is on..." Well, anyway... we all know that DMA thing, and have
    ben there, done it a zillion times! Anyway

    Remember, this is really just for those people still in the < 1.9x
    range. I believe that those who are in the 5.0+ range are most likly
    already utilizing this feature in their system. But, if you want
    (and you'll check it out anywayz), you can give my "finding" a
    once-over. I believe that this feature/finding (call it what you
    want) is overlooked. And, to my knowledge, it hasn't ben posted here!
    So, Here I am, making it's first appearance (less I stand corrected).
    Oh, and also, I needed to run a battery of tests to be sure, so I
    wouldn't look too stupid, making this post, so I did a bunch of
    ripping.

    Ok, now for the "posible" increase speed!!
    I'm basing this on AMD boards.

    * restart pc and go into your BIOS
    * look for a selection for "Integrated Peripherals" and select it
    * scroll down to where you see
    *
    * ---------------------------UDMA
    * "Secondary Master" --- Enabled, Auto, disabled
    * "Secondary Slave" --- Enabled, Auto, disabled
    *
    * change the UDMA setting of your DVD drive (usually on master)
    * to "disabled".
    * NOTE: mine was on the "Enabled" mode.
    * NOTE: UDMA may be listed as another word or something, so
    * you may need to look at your manual.

    I think that the UDMA in overstated and wow looking, so we
    just bypass this step, never realizing DVD's full potential !!
    Just look at my chart below, and see for yourself.
    ================================================== =============

    Based on my system specs (see below), here are a handful of my movie
    ripping speeds - i'll list them here and you's can compare your speed
    against mine and whatever else, based on "Smartripper 2.34" :
    ----------------OLD SPEED-----------NEW SPEED-----------TYPE---
    * Moonraker ~~~ 1.6x 50min. ~~~~ <= 9x 8min. ~~~~~ movie mode
    * Alien ~~~~~~~ 1.7x 20min. ~~~~~ 4.5x 2min. ~~~~~ 1st vob
    * Alien ~~~~~~~ 1.7x 20min. ~~~~~ 5.7x 2min. ~~~~~ 2nd vob
    * Alien ~~~~~~~ 1.4x 53min. ~~~~ <= 7x 13min. ~~~~~ movie mode
    * CastAway ~~~~ 1.6x 1h46min.~~~ <= 9x 45min. ~~~~~ movie mode
    * TheFithElement1.6x 50min. ~~~~~ <= 9x 9min. ~~~~~ movie mode

    Smartripper settings:
    MOVIE TAB:
    (o) every vob-file
    (o) every vob-file
    [x] unlock drive
    [x] demacrovision
    [x] copy IFO file
    [x] create directories
    (o) aspi (1GB files)
    max fileized: 4000 MB

    FILE/BACKUP TAB:
    (o) every vob-file
    [x] unlock drive
    [x] demacrovision
    [x] create directories
    (o) aspi (1GB files)

    Thats it! Just click Start !! ...and rip!!

    On another note, I thought VIA's last update was FINAL!! v2.34 ??
    Doesn't final mean "the end"... "no more" ??

    Well, I hope and wish all those, in the 1x speed range who tried
    the above process meet with success and are now able to join
    those in the "fast lane" 5x and greater!!

  7. Interesting...

    Something's screwy with your system... Turning UDMA should signficantly increase the speed of your drive as well as reducing/eliminating CPU load when you access the drive.

    vitualis,

    I guess you could say that!!
    I've re-installed windows (from scratch) I don't know how many times,
    and thinkgs like this happen.
    Anyway, if you noticed my specs area, my CPU'age was 10%, before
    all this, it was 42% - so, go figure!
    Yes, I've re-installed via drivers on top, from scratch, all the way to
    formatting my hd, and PAINSTAKENLY INSTALL EACH VIA VER DRIVER
    and check my ripping speed per driver. if 2.24 didsn't help, reformat
    and re-install windows and try via driver version 2.25, then 2.26, 2.27
    all the way to 2.34 (final). Nothing! Speed was the same. Today, I
    go home from work to have a quick lunch, turn on my pc, sit down,
    and,... for the life of me, I pressed the DELete key by accident! So, I
    says, let me have a looksees around. Went to my drives, and saw a
    UDMA, and went right past it. ...but came back to it. ...in short,
    I dissabled it. And, for both my HD as well. Well, when I went back
    into windows 98, any time my HD got some serious attention, my mouse
    would move reaaaaaaallllyyyyyyyyyy slowwwwwwww! I figured I screwed
    things up, and was about to shut down. And, then a thought came to me
    and said, "go see how much slower your rips could now be" ...When I
    saw how fast it went and saw numbers I an't seen in this setup, I was
    floored, with my mouth wide open. I hit a on somthing!
    Course, I re-Enabled both my HD's (PRIM), but left my DVD and CD
    Burner disabled. i haven't even tested the cd burner yet. I hope that
    I get better throughput on it. To burn a VCD 15mb file take 2+ minutes
    on a 4x cdrw. Well, since you were the only one to respond this late night,
    You got to learn how I stumbled accross this find.

    Did you see how long it took to rip Cast Away in my prev settings?
    1 hour and 46 minutes+ Now, it's 45! That's a big difference!!

    Oh, I beleve my DVD rom is a 9x or 10x, can't remember, 2 years old
    I think. Will have to find out!

    Its funny, I made some test with "DVD Speed 99" about 6 months ago, and
    I remember seen the graph show 2mb, 1mb and slowly going down instead
    of up. Now, when I re-run this test, the graphi starts at 3x+ and goes beyond
    the top box (6.85x).
    Don't get me wrong. Whenevre I would play a dvd movie, it would play with
    no trouble at all. So, go figure!

    shee's it's almost 3am here! What the hell am I still doing up??

    Now, if I could only get CCE to work for me. If you've ben reading up on my
    audio sync issues... The added encode speed would really help, but I'm left
    with TMPGEnc. Course I like tmpg. It's greate. but, I just like to get a good
    and successful encode out of CCE. Well, anyway, that's another topic that
    doesn't interest you.
    Anyway, thants for checking out this new finding from me.

  9. Didnt help me at all, still only getting 1.3x.
    Have to have DMA turned off with my setup, otherwise when I start SmartRipper wondows throws up a page fault and I have to restart.
