  1. Just wanted to check and see if anyone else is experiencing problems w/ APEX 5131 and SVCDs. Based on the DVD Players list, I just picked up one of these units. To my disappointment, my SVCDs are jumpy when I try to play them. (Seems like it's trying to play catch up/jump ahead every 2-3 seconds.)

Has anyone else seen this? Here's some of my specifics:

    - Source was initially captured w/ VDub
    - Converted to SVCD MPEG format w/ TEMPGenc (NTSC Film Template)
    - Burned to CD with Nero

I should point out that the same SVCDs play great in two other players. Also, the 5131 seems to play my CVDs just fine. (The CVDs were captured / converted / burned with the same setup.)

    Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

  2. YEs I am having the same problem as well. It was playing vcd's, and Svcd's for almost 4 months then blam. It jerks and chirps. Happened on a Dvd once as well. I unpluged the unit for about an hour, then it worked fine. The very next day same crap. Im at a loss here as on what to do.
I loved the fact of having a 3 disc tray, and the playback compatability.

I hope some can help us with an ansewr besides throwing the unit out he window.

  3. I have the same player. I capture to mpeg with ATI Multimedia Center at 1.18kbs because of sync problems. I burn as a non-standard VCD with nero. It works fine. All my vhs are on cd's. But, my player is near a window with a breeze, could it be a heat problem ? Had it over a year now, never had a problem with DVD's unless they were scratched or had finger prints. VCD are perfect, but no PBC.

  4. I have a similar problem with a new Mintek DVD player. It plays VCD's fine, but my SVCD is jumpy, my Panasonic player plays the SVCD at about 1/2 time, if I use the fastforward button, it's almost regular. The SVCD plays fine in my computer.

  5. Thank you for the replies. Bottom line: I'm going to return the Apex and look for something that's got better SVCD support. Oh well... the search continues.

  6. The CyberHome 500 has the exact same problem with the SVCD playback jerkiness, so it is NOT limited just to Apex. A surefire way to smooth it out is to switch my 500 over to "audio 2" when playing an SVCD....problem is, no audio exists on 2! What is the solution to this? And I just updated the bios to the latest release....
