I made a vcd using Nero and when I play it on my standalone DVD player some of the videos are excellent quality and some roll as if there is a problem with the horizontal aspect of the TV,does anyone have a suggestion?

It sounds like you may have a PAL / NTSC compatibility issue on some of your discs.
Many DVD players can convert between PAL and NTSC on-the-fly if you don't have a multisystems TV. If it cannot, then you will have to do a software conversion between PAL <--> NTSC.
