Seems that people have had luck getting dvd+rws to play on their Apex 600a by changing the bitsetting with the Zuiderwijk utility at http://www.dvdplusrw.org/resources/bitsettings.html. However, when I run it misrecognizes the dru500a as a first gen dvd+rw and says it's a no go. Is this just a matter or waiting for the software author to catch up, should I use something else, or is it a no go?

For what it is worth.. I was wondering the same thing...
I have an older DVD player and was wondering if this might help to get disks to play... -
Sony has not published a means to set the DVD book type, and
the sony drive is incompatible with the method that the bitset
utility attempts. It's not clear if there will be a way to set the
book type on the sony in the future. Sony has yet to even
acknowledge the problem.
