    Hey!

I'm trying to connect my nvidia g2 card to my tv. the problem is, the tv was made in japan (and i'm not talking about a regular sony 'made in japan' and then shipped to canada .. this was physically brought over from japan ... all the controls/remote are in japanese). now, i've managed to translate most of the controls, but i'm still having trouble getting something, ANYTHING, onto the screen. when i go into the settings to setup the tv-out, the computer/card doesn't appear to automatically detect the tv. when i try to 'force detect', the tv screen flickers for a few seconds but otherwise stays blank ... any suggestions?

    tv card: nvidia g2 w/ tv-out (composite and s-video <tried both>)
    Chrontel 7007 tv chipset
    Television: Mitsubishi

btw> i HAVE gotten the tv-out to work on another televsion so, it ain't the card i don't think .. thxs ...

The TV might be set for 50Hz as some parts of Japan are still on that form of power instead of the 60Hz/120 Volts used in Canada. Why did you need a Japanese TV or did you move back to Canada from Japan?

Also, the frequencies for channels are different. Unless you are able to use the digital tuner somehow to tune US/Canada freqs or the straight Video IN you may have a bit of a problem using that set over here...

Try a tool called TVtool 6.8
There's a 15 min demo per session available.

It has a TV format settings ie..Pal or Ntsc
Also note the little (>) at the bottom for more Pal Option selections.

I know it works with your card cause I have the same one with the same chipset.

Bonus! Also lets you get true full screen on the TV.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

we have a bunch of tv's here brought over from japan (wanted the wide screen models before you could get here) -- they are exactly the same as far as channels and power and such (yes i understand there is an area still on 50hz in japan (heard something about that)-- there are some remote area in canada on weird power also left over from lumber camps) ..

question is -- are you sure this tv still works?

    Hey!

thanks all for the speedy reply!

re: old_fart13: The TV is compatiable with the 60Hz/120Volts here in Canada and actually plugs rite into my outlet! =P The TV was actually free .. my friend originally brought the TV over from Japan but recently moved back .. he didn't need it anymore so he gave it to me. =P

as for the channal frequencies, it took me awhile (who am i kidding? jeebus, it took forever) to figure out how to manually tune the TV for canadian frequences; eventually, i got it to work. altho the TV is unable to recieve ALL the channals, for the most part, it plays fine. i also thought maybe there was something wrong with the vid-IN but, my PS hooks up to it just fine.

re: gll99: yea, i thought of trying tvtool to get the thing to work. but doesn't TVtool require the whole setup to work in the first place? i thought tvtool was just a proggie to adjust/tweak certain aspects of the setup .. but i'll give it a try, nonetheless.

re: bj_M: yea, this TV is so funky .. it has a built in swivel stand that lets u turn the tv ~90degrees .. perfect for my computer setup .. i can watch tv on the couch or turn it 90degrees and use it as a 2nd monitor! =P and yes, i am positive the TV works. i can watch regular TV shows on it (hooked up via regular cable) and play ps on it.

anyways, i'll try messing around with the settings in windows some more to see if i may be missing something; but i can't see how, since i have managed to set-up the tv-out on another set.

Thanks again for all the suggestions/info.

    CHEERS!

  6. Not whether this applies to your case or not. I last solve my TV-out problem by simply reset the screen resolution to 800x600. My Win XP detects the TV-out ever since.

I found this solution using Google earlier. It's something known to happen for NVIDIA GEFORCE TV-out chipsets.

that 800 x 600 might be it .. thats what i set my external monitor size to on my matrox to get video monitor out on a tv monitor .. you would think its 640 x 480 but 800 x 600 is what worked ..
