My standalone DVD played plays my coppied DVDs fine, But my PS2 will not. It's only new so it's not chipped....Does it need to be?

To play DVD-R movies the PS2 does not need to be chipped. Some versions (I think up to version 4) will not play DVD+R's. The PS2 is very picky when it comes to the brand of dvd-r's that it will play (cheap ones will play poorly or not play at all.)
