  1. Ok I know the PS2 cant play VCDs but I have a Idea of getting around that problem but I'm not sure if it would work or if it's possible but please hear me out.

Since the PS2 can play DVDs "out of the box" would it be possible to burn a DVD movie format on to a CD-r(assuming your video will fit.) Would that work or is the VCD problem a hardware issure instead of a Issue with the PS2s OS?

I dont have a PS2 my self but I want to send a video I made to some people I know who have DVD players and PS2s(they dont own computers)

  2. well you cant burn dvd's with a normal burner you need a dvdburner. but that would cost big bucks, and you dont know whether the players can even play burned dvd roms.

your best shot is to use the VCD format. It can play for pple on home computer and a majority of DVD players. BUT BUT BUT they cannot be played on the PS2 as of yet.

You can burn dvd content onto a cdr, which I think is what he is talking about. Its called a mini-dvd but no the PS2 cannot play this, nor can %99 of all other dvd player. Its actually a combination of both software and hardware issues. The PS2 checks the media and says if cdr load either game, or audio software. If dvd media then load either dvd-rom game or dvd movie. So you stick in a cdr with dvd content on it and it says ok is this a game or an audio cd. Then it realizes it is neither and spits it back at you. This is the same process with most hardware dvd players. Mixing media and format just doesnt work on most players.

The PS2 can play dvd-rom games copied onto a dvd-r or dvd-rw although it is a little picky about the media and it also requires you to use a dvd-rom game to swap with, regardless of what kind of mod chip you have. Furthermore only some dvd-rom games work as a swap disk, dont know why.

  4. RobertSmith, I don't understand what you mean. The ps2 can't play VCD, and you wanna burn DVD content onto a CD and play it? What does it prove? It proves the PS2 can play dvd content which is mpeg2, it'll remind not able to play VCD(mpeg1) content. Hasn't there been a software VCD player for ps2 already?

I though the problem was the PS2 OS couldnt read the Mpeg1(VCD) format and I was hoping coverting my video into the DVD(mpeg2) format would allow the PS2 to play my video but the problem(Issue I should say) is more hardware then software, as adam pointed out.

Maybe in a few years I'll beable to afford a DVD burner, hell they are as cheap as 550 bucks a few moths ago they were up in the 1000 dollar + range.
