Remove original black borders in conversion process?

Does anyone know of a DIVX-> VCD encoder that will chop off black borders?

The black borders in my divx are actually encoded into it and part of the original film

dvd2svcd won't do it.

umm TMPGEnc perhaps...?

There's a feature within Setting > Advanced (tab) > Clip Frame which appears to allow this. Never done it myself but it looks promising.

I suspect there MAY be some advice about using blocks of 16 as well, for reasons which I can't remember, however my amateur advice is a good start!

ok, i found it, but it was a pain in the arse. can it not be incorparated into dvd2svcd (since it uses tmpgenc and would just need to send a few more arguments to the exe/project file?)

There is a way to do it in DVD2SVCD using the Edit as part of video encoding at the bottom left of the frameserver tab. This enables you to edit the avisynth script to add a crop filter. It's not as hard as it looks. Try here to get an idea...

With regard to blocks of 16. If the X and Y resolutions can be divided exactly by 16, you should get faster encoding speeds as it allows for MMX optimisations to kick in (I can't remember where I got that info from so thanks to whoever!)

Yes, negative values, because the arguments of Crop are (left, top, frame-width, frame-height)
