  1. Why is it that when I play some avi's (with mp3 audio compression) in windows media player, the audio is out of synch with the video. The amount of delay varies as the avi continues and sometimes will come back into synch but then will go back out again. However, when I play the same avi in virtuadub the synch is perfect. So what is virtuadub doing that wmp is not and how can I convert the avi so that it will play properly in wmp. I have tried extracting the audio as a wav file then reatached it to the video but this made no difference. It seems as though the audio and video are playing as seperate files with nothing connecting them together whereas virtuadub is able to maintain a connection between them.

    Cheers

The problem is within Windows Media Player itself and in the way it handles VBR mp3 files. I normally wouldn't advocate the use of Beta software, but the latest release candidate for WMP 9 seems to have gone a long way in resolving these issues. Some here might object downloading WMP 9, but it seems Microsoft went a long way in fixing some of the earlier bugs and I've been using it for over a week now without any problems.

  4. it whold help us if you list your hardware,
my guess whould be that you have a slow computer,
    or its a ram problem.
i had an Amd 500mhz, and it acted just like you said.

by the way the windows media player is a big eater of ram,
so try other software to play your avi.

i think this will solve the problem.
HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE

  5. I've just tried BSPlayer and it works fine now, so I think you were definitely right about wmp using a lot of memory as I only have a PII 450 with 256mb.
