I have a 8.4 gig dvd i ripped. I want to put it on 2 dvd-rw s, delete it from my computer, and then store it and eventually put it back on my computer to make a divx file of it. Can I seperate it into 2 dvd-rws and put it back on the computer from the dvd-rw discs on as one file in a folder and have it play as it originally did even though the file was split up into two seperate discs?

As long as you put all the files into VIDEO_TS folder, or any folder really, if you are going to play back from your HD. Just keep all the files in the same folder.
If you ripped originally from 2 dvd's to get your 8.5 GB then keep a note of what files came from which disk so you dont get your vob's all mixed up -
What if i want to burn it to a 8 gig dvd when or if bigger dvd-r comes out. Does splitting it on to 2 dvd-rw change things? Its one movie. Will I be able to put it back together as one and burn it to a dvd-r

What if i copy the vobs to 2 dvd-rw?s Id rather do that then put it on a harddrive. Also I want to copy the whole dvd and split it on two. Is it the same as storing it on a harddrive or is there a physical or some way it would not play correctly when put back on the computer again? from the dvd-rw. Is there any difference between the two storage methods or are they both the same.

You can store your files however you wish, but I wouldnt use the small HD if they are old ones.
You could put each file on a different disk if you wanted, you could put half on your HD and half on dvd rw.....put them anywhere they will fit.
All youve got to do is stick them all back in the same place when you want to watch or burn them.
