  2. The 343 seems to be more popular (see DVD reviews on the left) might I also suggest you look at the Hitachi 415U, it plays everything; including MP3s which the pioneer does not. Also the 'listed max bitrate' for the hitachi is higher.

I might (emphasis on MIGHT) be looking into another player, I just got burned by an Apex 500W, the the Pioneer 343 which was crappy and DOA, then another Apex 500W. That's if I can't solve problems with the Apex...

Anyway, a question: which one of these players (if any) will NOT choke on "High" bitrates, or "Low" bitrates? I heard the Pioneer will choke on BOTH (and since I only use low bitrate AVG and 2-Pass, this is a real problem). I've never heard one testimonial on the Hitachi. It is better at this?

  4. As long as its compliant Pioneer343 will do, so far it played all crap we put into it. Discs that my Philips, NEC and Samsung DVD-players wouldnt accept Pioneer did.

These are definitely NOT compliant discs I'm talking about. They are 2-pass VBR MPEG-1 VCD's. (how many more acronyms can I fit in there)?

Some I have drop way down to 0 bitrate, and up to as high as 2500. I know I put in one (I don't know if I demuxed/remuxed it), but right from the start of the move it choked (went way out of synch). On the Pioneer I mean...
