  3. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but which processors have Hyper-threading? I have a P4 1.6Ghz, will this help me?

  4. Hyperthreading will not help you. I believe Hyperthreading support starts on the 2.4ghz processors.

    Again a dumb question...

    I have a P4 2.4Ghz with 1GB RAM.

Will the hyperthreading help me? WHAT IS 'hyperthreading'?

    Sorry for sounding stupid!

  7. Hyperthreading makes the newest Pentium 4 processors look to the OS as dual P4 processors & should be a slight spead increase.

BUT if you have WinXP HOME you are sh*t out of luck as that OS only supports 1 processor - you have to upgrade to WinXP Professional to use "multiple processors".

There are articles online that explain this in excruciating detail. I thinl www.extremetech.com had one.

  8. I just check the Intel website, only the newest 3.06G Processor support Hyper threading and also you need to verify the Chip set being using supports Hyper threading, i.e.845E.

the xeon proccessors (2.4 and up - on 860 and 7500 chip sets) also support hyperthreading and with dual xeon's ... it makes the OS think there is 4 cpu's .... sweet ...

Main Concept 1.3.1 , eyeon digital fusion 4.0 , TNPGenc 2.59 all support hyperthreading ...

not many apps do at this point (support hyperthreading) but non the less , most of the time, you still get some added performance (not always) ..

on apps that do support hyperthreading you get 100% on all 4 virtual cpu's like this if you need it :
