I'm having exactly the opposite problem...
I've ripped (DVD Encrypter) and burned (nero) a DVD+R (New Legend of Shaolin, RC0, DVD-5) and and it plays the Disclaimer in the beginning but won't jump to the DVD Menu on neither my Sony nor Panasonic standalone players (which usually handle DVD+R fine). However my PS2 (with Messiah Chip) plays it without any problems... any ideas on what I could have done wrong???
Cheers. -
Hi now I have just burned to DVD-r a movie ,which plays fine on standalones but the PS2 wont play it,I used nero with a home made template No multi sesssion no joiet etc..any elp would be appreciated...

What did you use to author? Ifoedit 0.94 had problems with PS2 playback. Spruceup works 80% of the time. Dvdit about 90%.
-
Yes I am using the new DVD2DVD-r program then on to ifoedit 0.94,,
so will try either >0.94 or try and get spruce up etc thanks for the quick reply. -
hi,,i,m having probs with playing back dvd-r discs.the movies play fine but they are in black and white.i use dvd it pe and nero to burn.any ideas on how to correct this prob
-
Black & white probably means you are trying to play a NTSC source (US) on a PAL system (Europe) or possibly visa versa.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
First off Im well pissed off I just wrote a post about 200 words long, I hit preview and the whole post dissappeared so im not writing all that gain, im keeping it short
dang!!!!
OK I have some interesting news to report...........
1. Everything I did was tested Phillips+Verbatim DVD+RW and cheap brand called Mirror DVD+RW/+R
2. I live in UK but have Blade2 Candian version.
3. My PS2 is V5 2 months old my mates PS2 is old machine from launch day version 3 i believe - both have Messiah chip installed (uk machines)
4. My PS2 has latest DVD drivers in ROM his are old drivers.
5. PC is WinXP Sp1 (not sure it this causes problems with REMPEG2)
Blade2 = DVD9 Therefore ripped to HD with DVD Decrypter.
IFOEDIT used to rip all subs and laguages etc, kept the English+DD5.1 Track, basically used the (Doom9 guides)
Still was too big too fit onto DVD5, therefore I used REMPEG2 to Transcode, I used a Scale Factor of 71%.
Did the whole process of remuxing with original audio stream etc etc
All fiited to DVD5 and burned with Nero.
Burnt to said media at top, and it wouldnt play properly in PS2 played fine on PC.
To make things worse took the copy I burned onto DVD+R round my mates house and it worked fine!!!!!
Okay, So i thoght lets test media, by doing a copy of a DVD5>DVD5, So i choose the DVD Extras disc that came with Braveheart DVD, did the whole DVD decrp thing and burned to DVD+RW using Nero, it worked flawlessly in my PS2.
Therefore it aint a media issue my Ps2 can read all these media fine, even game backups
hmmmmm..................
So from this I concluded that something is a foot with the movie file that is trancoded using REMPEG2 and the latest DVD drivers, they both have issues of somesort, ( remember I have proven media was not the issue here, and it remember it worked fine in old PS2 with old DVD drivers )
now this was interesting, i took the .m2v file that was produced by REMPEG2, all this contains is the video that was transcoded, I imported it into a project in DVDit! PE, I didnt add any sound or menus and I simply pressed play to preview the DVD using DVDits! own player/tester...
What I found was, that the movie was playing jerky, with pausing inbetween, just like the DVD in the PS2, kinda proves that not only PS2 but DVDit! player seem to have the same problem or at least the same way of playing files
So I am adament that the issue here rests with........
a) REMPEG2 Transcoded files + PS2 New Drivers = BAD
or
b) REMPEG2 Transcoded files = Bad
That is why I need to get hold of CCE which I believe is the best Encoder and see what that produces.
Tell me what u guys think.Verb media and never a problem....

I also have the same problems with my ps2. DVD-R movies play fine on computer and standalone but jerking in ps2. I use Princo and Memorex DVD-R and is going to test Ritek once shipment arrive. Both media are work great for games but no movies on PS2. I use Ulead DVD workshop to author, haven't tried with Spruce up or DVDit PE but i'm going to try using other authoring program. Has anyone ever get movies authored by DVD Workshop to work flawlessly on PS2? Also what media work Flawlessly for movies on PS2?
