R normal SVCD files that u download for example in DC, and r called for example "bla bla bla.TS-Centropy.SVCD:CD1.mpg"....
r they ready to be burnt, or do you have to convert them in one or another way?
Ofcourse i am talking about what is teh case in 9 out of 10....i understand that maybe one file here and there can be badly named SVCD althoug it isnt....but in normal cases how is it?
Thanx

In many cases, the file is probably SVCD-ready, meaning it can't be burned to disc as is. But, I've come across some that were not. The best way to tell is to use a utility to give you some information about the file, like VirtualDub or Mpegprop, etc. Also, any already-encoded MPEG I download, I demux/mux using the tools in TMPGEnc just to "tighten up" the file a bit. That can cut down on errors in sync, etc.

These vidoes cant be opened in Virtualdub which means(only some of the vidoes, mpgs
) i cant get hold of the info to convert it...however converting should be really unneccesary since it is supposed a SVCD i guess....
Once i tried to convert one of these files in TMPGEnc anyway...withou knowing what format it shoudl be,,,i just didnt touch anything in the resolution boxes and set it to NTSC...the movie i got was in a whole other format...and in overall semeed quite strange....
What should i do?

also...do i need any plugin for nero...i have downloaded the latest version of Nero Burning ROM.....
Thanx -
also do i need any speacial codecs in my computer to be able to pull these things off?
Really i know nothing.... -
You would need an MPEG-2 codec installed. I think the Nemo Codec pack has one. Also TMPGEnc Plus has full-function MPEG-2 support (freeware TMPGEnc has limited MPEG-2). Nero also has an MPEG-2 codec but it costs extra (available on the Ahead website). Best bet is to get the Nemo codec pack and see if it has an MPEG-2 codec, then VirtualDub should be able to open the files correctly.

Clarification: TMPGEnc comes with an mpeg2 encoder - not a decoder. This means it can output mpeg2-files, but not open them. However, in conjuction with other software, most notably some software DVD players, it can even open mpeg2 files (as these install MPEG2 decoders that TMPGEnc knows hoew to use).
And, (I don't know how many times I've written this!) don't author your VCD's/SVCD's with Nero. Use VCDEasy and at the most let Nero burn the cue/bin VCDEasy produces (if your drive isn't supported by CDRDAO).

i am doing as you told me but wonder one thing....(the CDRAO thingy is disabled in my VCDEasy) when i want to make a bin/cue file in VCDEasy should i have PAl or NTSC if i dont know what the source has(i have dl Nimo Codec Pack but still VirtualDub causes probs)?
Thanx -
I've never seen any settings in VCDEasy for PAL/NTSC. If I haven't misunderstood everything, this is a property of the MPEG, so can only has any meaning when you encode something to MPEG.
You'll get a NTSC/PAL VCD depending on the MPEG. Most DVD's can play both types, so that's not a problem.
As for CDRDAO, try activating CDRDAO, and if that wont work, update your ASPI drivers (from Adaptec).

hi mats...i dont know if it is okey to post in swedish in here, so i continue in english...
The setting for PAL/NTSC is in Settings>S()VCD Player>Misc>Preferred TV_system probably something unimportant but i just wanted to check with you guys...
IŽll try that aspi thing, will post soon about th eresult...
However i just tried like you said before.....get a bib/cue file in VCDEasy and then burn it with Nero(i did it in 4x)
The result: No audio at all, and a movie that played back very fast, almost like you had pushed the forward-button(ok, not that fast, but you kind of get what i mean?)
Thanx -
i tried the aspi driver thing...Didnt get me no luck....still cant use the CDRAO thing in VCDEasy...
However i am trying to locate where the different problems come from..
This is strange. When i downloaded the NTSC SVCD Sample fron this homepage and burnt it at 4x in Nero...which should give me a perfect SVCD clip. when i played it in my DVD-player all i got was a perfect picture, no audio, like all the times before.....although i get audio whenever i play rented DVD-movies. Why?
Thanx -
also...the VCD PAL sample from here worked perfectly at 2x burn...coudl teh brin speed be it?
-
Well, it could be a lot of things, but most likely, your DVD doesn't support SVCD or NTSC. The writing speed shouldn't matter. You're changing too many parameters (NTSC->PAL, SVCD->VCD, 4x->2x) at the same time to make it possible to make any conclutions.
I'd suggest burning the samples (you shouldn't need to go any lower than 4x writing speed - I use 1/2 max speed of the writer as a rule of thumb) to CD-RW to see what works and what wont work.
Also take a look at the DVD compatibility chart to see what your DVD can handle.

hehe the problem was that it was reg. 2 codec....but look at my lastest problem...posted in the forum too....
Ok, Am i screwed?
I have a Centrum Libra DVD-player, which is region 2 codec. So i downloaded the update and everything and burned it to a cd-r.
I putted it in my DVD, everything seemed to be going fine, it just told me to not turn the switch off under the process, as it could result in that the dvd-player would be unable to use, permanently...so...i let some time go...and a screen came up where it said, in the end, that the update had been successful or something..HOWEVER...NOW THIS HAPPENDS:
in the box it tells me to turn my dvd off and then on again....i try to do this by the remote...but it seems like the dvd has locked itself up...so i wait a minute or two and try again....again nothing...i try to press the clos/open button nothin....so i see no other option that to turn it iff, by the REAL powerbutton(switch or whatever its called)...so i do so...AND I`M FUCKED (?)
MY DVD_player is DEAD....the only thing that happends when i push the powerbutton is that something in the lcd background happends...nothign special...it doesn say anthing on the lcd....the poerbutton doesnt become red, as it always does....NOTHIN...plz help????????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Am i screwed? -
Ouch!
I've got the same DVD as you do, and had no problems upgrading.
You might find a solution to your f**ked flash rom here. If you don't want to go tru the hazzle, and still have a valid warranty, just return it to the place of purchase and play innocent!
/Mats -
so u got the same DVD?
If you could give me your msn or something i really have a lot of question...if not can you just tell em emore about this flash thing...kind of hard to understand what you ment..
Thanx -
You could always mail me - I've got too little time for chatting!
