Hi all,
jus a newbie qn....pls dun flame me
I'm using a Duron 700Mhz . Does it help in ripping and conversion if i get say a Good GFX card with Video Processing Engine (VPE) such as a Geforce 4MX 440?
Me not enuff $$$ to get a new system so was wondering if a good GFX can do the trick.

New video card is not what you need. You need DVD-ROM Drive and at least 10gigs HDD space.

Actually, I'm ripping DVD now with 2.5 gig of space and a 400 MHz CPU with good old NVIDIA TNT. So you don't need 10 Gig of space. It's mainly CPU speed, patience, and knowing the setup. Having more space helps as ripping the whole thing to HD makes things easier, but it's not required.

yea....CPU is the main determinant of encode time, given constant tmpgenc settings...
don't expect anything less than 12 hrs to encode with a duron 600 mhz...my old athlon 650 takes about that long w/o any filters...if i use any, that comp takes alot more time....
if your mobo can support, try just upgrading the CPU.....athlon xp's go for $100 now
