New video card is not what you need. You need DVD-ROM Drive and at least 10gigs HDD space.
May the force be with you.

Actually, I'm ripping DVD now with 2.5 gig of space and a 400 MHz CPU with good old NVIDIA TNT. So you don't need 10 Gig of space. It's mainly CPU speed, patience, and knowing the setup. Having more space helps as ripping the whole thing to HD makes things easier, but it's not required.

  4. yea....CPU is the main determinant of encode time, given constant tmpgenc settings...

don't expect anything less than 12 hrs to encode with a duron 600 mhz...my old athlon 650 takes about that long w/o any filters...if i use any, that comp takes alot more time....

if your mobo can support, try just upgrading the CPU.....athlon xp's go for $100 now
