  1. I converted a divx movie to xsvcd using tmpg encoder, and when I watch the mpeg on my computer with power dvd it plays fine. When I burn the xsvcd using nero it plays but the audio and video both jump or skip during playback.

Here is what I converted it as:

    Resolution: 720x480
    frame rate: 23.976
    CBR: 1753
    Layer 2 44100Hz 224kbps

I used the xvcd calculator on this site to come up with the video rate.
The first half is 53 min 24sec which is exactly half the movie and I burnt it as a Svcd, On 80 min Cd-r

I dont know if maybe I figured the video rate out properly?
And where can I find a guide on how to convert and burn these properly?

  2. Are you sure your DVD player supports XSVCD? Why not encode it as SVCD?

  3. Yes I am positive that it plays them. When I tried the last one it played but it was kind of jerky.

I want to do it for the better resolution.

Well, jerky playback might just mean it is not accepted by your DVD player (the fact that it plays doesn't mean it is XSVCD compatible - it needs to play without flaws) unless this is just a 1 out of 100 perfect XSVCDs. If so then it might be 2 things:

    1) You've accidentally loaded a wrong template (NTSC instead of PAL or vice versa)
    2) The bitrate is too high for your DVD player

  5. I double checked all of my setting and i noticed that the frame rate that is shown in virtual dubb under the file info is 23.979.

Could that extra .003 fps be the difference? And if it is how do I correct this problem?

How come tmpg loads 23.976 when you open it up instead of the movies actual frame rate? It loads the movies actual resolution untill you change it.

  6. No, 0.003 fps won't make a difference - that is why even TMPGEnc didn't show it when you loaded the file. The problem might also be caused by:

    1) Bad CDR/RW, try another one (preferably different brand)
    2) Too high burning speed - try 2/4x
