  1. Hi all,

I have the above card with an Athlon 650Mhz 448MB RAM
system and can't get ATI capture sw to do a high-res
capture. Is this my hardware limitation or the ATI
sw? I can't tell cause I can't get VDub to work on
my machine. (ain't the wrapper case cause VDub can
see my card... just the video is SOOO CRAPY in VDub...
think its bcos I duuno how to set VDub to know
its a PAL not NTSC source.)

However, i like the results given by ATI software and
so I really hope is just a hardware limitation.
Basically, I want to make sure i have got the BEST possible
capture of my VHS b4 i get rid of them.

btw, are ppl here willing to check out a sample of my
output to help me solve some burning problems?
[This mail is too long... I'll post more info on this
if there are peeps who are willing to check it out]

Thank you for your time. Any info/help is greatly
    appreciated. Thanks again.

    Klick the newbie... obviously.

mpeg 2 requires an enormious amount of cpu power.
    an enormous amount.

capture avi and trascode. you get better results. mpeg 2 real time is reserved for ppl with hardware encoders. special cards with powerful chips that are designed for encoding. they take the workload off the cpu and though it requires all the power of ur cpu, you get much better results.

imagine an iron bar. you pick it up but it's so heavy you can only move it a few inches before you gotta rest. that's a cpu only real time encode.

now a second person comes in -the hardware encoder- and helps. much faster results.
