I'm excited to use this new drive for burning home movies to DVD, but I'd also like to use the included DVD+RW media to backup some documents. I understand that the Veritas DLA software isn't ready yet, but I thought that Windows XP SP1 had native support for DVD+RW.
Do I have to have the Veritas DLA software to backup data or do I need to do something else?

The DRU-500a comes with Veritas Simple Backup in the box. This app lets you select directories and/or files to backup to DVD in a batch (or backup your entire hard drive). It also puts a copy of the restore part of the app on the DVD so you can restore off the DVD without the app installed on your drive. It seems to do some compression; it doesn't simply copy your directories and files to the DVD.

Thanks for pointing out the Veritas software. I'll try that.
A little further digging on microsoft.com reveals that they have promised native DVD+RW support in the NEXT version of Windows. I thought it was delivered in XP SP1. Sorry for the confusion.
