  1. with files that are .ASF...can you just load them up in TMPGEnc and convert them to mpeg to make a vcd? or do you have to use something different?

Download Virtualdub 1.3c in the Tools section (to the left) as it supports .asf files. Here are the steps for .asf files in Virtualdub 1.3c:

    1. Under the Audio tab: "Direct stream copy"
    2. Under the Video tab: "Direct stream copy"
    3. Under the File tab: "Save as AVI..."
    4. Type in a new filename and that's it!!!

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

To get tmpgenc to accept asf and wmv (windows media) files you need to activate the directshow reader plugin. Go to OPTIONs...environmental settings and make sure the plugin is checked on. You will note that avi/asf will appear in the selection options of the video source. For wmv you will have to use the *.* option and then select the file.

You may need to deactivate the plugin when you are done because it sometimes interferes with framserving or can cause the audio to not be recognized in vfw (non-directshow) avi files.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.
